Vidyadaan is an attempt to share knowledge with the children of government schools, which will be conducted regularly. The main motto is to ensure that the children don't lack basic skills like self-introduction in English, simple math, etc. We conduct a few activities to teach them concepts instead of regular teaching. We also conduct games as an extra activity to cheer them up. This event also acts as a stress-reliever for volunteers who get a chance to spend time with children.
Udaan is a regular event that NSS conducts to share knowledge with the students of nearby villages. It is an event which is conducted on Saturdays. Students of IITH teach them many topics with videos and ensure that the purpose is being fulfilled. Storytelling and other extra-curricular activities are also conducted to brighten them. Based on the standards, the students are divided into sub-groups, and enough volunteers are assigned to each sub-group for maximum efficiency.
One of the primary reasons for many deaths is unavailability of blood during emergencies. Keeping this in mind, NSS IITH organizes frequent blood donation camps to play its part in minimizing casualties. Many students and faculty participate in this activity, thereby contributing to the nation as its responsible citizens. This event is usually conducted on major days like Independence day, Republic day, etc.
The easiest and most sustainable way to positively affect the environment is by planting trees. The plantation is one of the biggest tasks to serve our environment, and there are numerous benefits too. It is our responsibility to contribute our maximum to make the nation green. NSS IITH organizes the Plantation drive most frequently, and most of the students participate actively in this activity cheerfully.
Cleanliness may be defined as the emblem of purity of mind. If the vicinities are clean, the atmosphere becomes so fresh and lively. It is the responsibility of every citizen to keep their surroundings clean. Swachhta hi Seva is an event conducted in the campus to ensure that the vicinity is clean and safe. Students attend this event in higher strengths and try their maximum to make the event successful.
Gandhi Jayanthi is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of the father of our nation. NSS IITH commemorates this day by lighting a candle to Gandhi's picture and conducting a special plantation drive; unlike other plantation drives, plants are planted in several areas of campus at once. Many people come together for this event to show their love for the country.
Knowledge is not always shared by teaching; it is also shared by donating books. As we progress through certain stages of life the books which were once of use to us are no longer needed and are left unused. So, book donation drives are organized where students donate books that could be of better use somewhere else. The event is conducted every year and donations are made to orphanages and old age homes.
Following a Healthy lifestyle is important. To encourage students to follow a healthy lifestyle and energize them Walkathon is conducted several times in a year. In this event students walk from the Hostels to the Campus Main Gate which is a distance of 3km. Lots students take part in this event and make it enjoyable.
The importance of good nap cannot be emphasized more and mattress is a necessity for quality sleep. Upon noticing that many good mattresses are wasted at the end of the year, NSS IITH organizes mattress donation where viable mattress are collected from students and provided to old age homes and orphanages to secure their good sleep. This event is conducted once a year, many graduating students and volunteers contribute to it by donating their mattress.
Many children have more hunger for love than the hunger for food. It is easier to donate food than to shower love. Upon noticing that children from orphanages need a better company to play with or share their thoughts with, We, NSS IITH students, felt that orphanage visits would help them. Hence, we started this event and found students who participated expressed their contentment.
CID is a compulsory course that every student of IITH should complete before graduation. Since keeping the surroundings clean is everyone's responsibility, it is made a common mandatory course. It is conducted once a semester by NSS IITH so that every student gets a chance to complete the course as well as their role.
Registration day is majorly to guide the freshers every year to complete the process of registration without any hiccups. Academic blocks are organized carefully, and enough volunteers for each and every section to seek help are provided by NSS. Students help the freshers and their parents with their doubts attentively.
Convocation is an important event conducted every year to give a proper and cheerful send-off to the graduating students. NSS IITH organizes the event and ensures that the graduating students get satisfied and leave the campus with beautiful memories.
Events such as essay writing, poster making, slogan writing, video making, and many more are conducted online by NSS on many occasions. These events are conducted quite often to improve the skills of students, and the students with best entries also get rewarded.
Fitness has a significant influence on our health. To ensure that the students stay healthy, NSS organizes FIT India frequently. Many students, as well as faculty members, participate in this event and make it delightful.
Weed Removal drive is an event conducted by NSS IITH to control the increasing number of weeds, which inhibits the growth of other useful plants. The threat of snakes and other unfriendly creatures is increasing due to these weeds. Doing this activity is nothing less than saving ourselves.
It is known that plastic causes damage to the environment. One alone cannot achieve the target of saving the world from this issue; instead, many people with coordination can do it. So NSS IITH acts as a platform by conducting this campaign to let students hold their hands and handle this issue unitedly.
Clothing is one of the basic survival needs. During times of natural calamities, many people lack this basic need. NSS IITH organizes this event of collecting clothes from students and donating them to the people in need. By helping one person, you cannot change the whole world, but you can change the world for that one person.
